Description

The nitric-perchloric acid digestion method gave a significantly lower value for manganese in plant material than did the dry-ashing method. The former method used here was as follow: One g of dried, ground plant sample was digested with 20 ml of nitric acid and 5 ml of perchloric acid in 100-ml Kjeldahl flask. Perchloric acid in the flask was evaporated up to approximately 3 ml. The digest was filtered and diluted to 100 ml. Manganese in the solution was determined by atomic absorption spectrophotometry. The low recovery of manganese was due to the conversion of manganese to the difficultly soluble oxide forms, which increased with decreasing the volume of residual perchloric acid in the flask. Upon treating the digest with hydroxylamine hydrochloride as the reducing agent, essentially all of manganese was recovered after nitric-perchloric acid digestion. In addition to manganese, one can also determine potassium, calcium, magnesium, iron, copper, and zinc on these same plant digests without interference from the added hydroxylamine hydrochloride.

植物試料中マンガンを原子吸光法で定量するにあたって, 硝酸-過塩素酸分解法(残留過塩素酸量約3ml)は乾式灰化法より低値を示した. このマンガンの損失は, 分解過程での難溶性マンガン酸化物の生成に基づくものであり, その生成程度は, 残留過塩素酸量の減少とともに増大した. 難溶化マンガンを可溶化するために, 分解液に塩酸ヒドロキシルアミンを添加したところ, 植物試料中のマンガンは完全に回収された. 塩酸ヒドロキシルアミンの共存は, マンガンのほかカリウム, カルシウム, マグネシウム, 鉄, 銅および亜鉛の原子吸光分析に影響がなかった.
