Factors concerened with the rooting and their roles in the rooting of cuttings of flowering quince were investigated from 1972 to 1977. Results were as follows: 1. Cuttings were made in March, June and September every year. Hardwood cuttings treated with NAA at 0, 25 and 50 ppm in March resulted in no increase in the rate of rooting. Softwood cuttings in June or semi-softwood cutting in September under intermittent mist, showed also the same result. 2. Hardwood cuttings stored in moist vermiculite outdoors in the fall showed no increase in the rate of rooting, even if they had been treated with NAA previous to the storage. 3. Ultra-softwood cuttings from forced stock plants in the plastic house were planted in the polyethylene-closed bench with bottom heat on March 22, 1976. The result showed that the cuttings except heel cuttings rooted fast and vigorously. While the cuttings from stock plants in the field planted in the same procedure on May 10 rooted not at all within 36 days.

ボケの発根を支配する要因とその作用機構を究明し, 急速で確実なさし木法を明らかにするため実験を行った. 1. 3月, 6月, 9月に一般的方法でミストざしを行ったが, 発根率は33%以下で, NAAの効果も認められなかった. 2. 12月におけるさし穂貯蔵も, 発根促進には効果がなかった. 3. ビニールハウスで促成した軟弱なさし穂を3月に密閉ざしすると, NAA処理に関係なく, 急速にまた高率で発根した. 4. しかし, 露地の母株の新梢を同様の方法でさし木しても, カルス形成のみで発根しなかった.
